Cathedral, historic lanes, courtyards and the seafront in one memorable day.
Begin by the sea
La Seu, Palma’s cathedral, rises above the waterfront. Parc de la Mar is a good place to admire it before walking towards the nearby Palau de l’Almudaina. It is an easy starting point for discovering the old town on foot.
Historic streets and courtyards
From the cathedral, wander into the narrow streets of the historic centre. Behind stone façades are the courtyards of old townhouses, small shops and atmospheric squares. The Arab Baths preserve traces of Palma’s Islamic past and make an interesting stop for architecture lovers.
Squares and promenades
Continue to Plaça Major before strolling along Passeig des Born, one of the centre’s best-known promenades. Take a break at a café, sample local food and then make your way back towards the water.
Useful advice
Palma’s centre is best explored on foot. Wear comfortable shoes and check opening times and admission requirements for the cathedral and monuments: these can vary by season and date. In summer, plan breaks in the shade.
